Natural Remedies for Burning Feet

posted in: Articles | 0

There are many reasons why you could be experiencing burning feet, including nerve-related disorders (diabetes neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease or erythromelalgia), nutritional deficiencies or even heavy alcohol use. While it is important to seek a diagnosis from a professional healthcare provider, there are many natural remedies you can try to relieve the pain associated with burning feet.

1. Cold water

A seemingly simple solution, cold water is possibly the most effective natural remedy for treating burning feet. Fill a bath or basin with cold water and soak your feet for about 15 minutes, but no longer. If you have erythromelalgia then this is not a safe remedy as it might cause skin problems. However, for those suffering from burning feet as a result of trauma or fatigue then cold water will relieve numbness, tingling and swelling.

2. Ginger

There are very few natural remedies that don’t mention ginger – and for good reason. Full of niacin and vitamins, ginger assists in blood circulation while reducing inflammation. For burning feet, mix a tablespoon of raw ginger juice with either olive oil or coconut oi and massage the mixture into your foot and leg for 10 to 15 minutes. You can also ingest the ginger in tea form if preferred.

3. Thyme

Boasting both antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, Thyme will unblock blood vessels to promote circulation and also work to treat Athlete’s Foot if that is the cause of the irritation. Add Thyme leaves to a bowl of hot water for 15 minutes. Massage this concoction into your feet every day until the burning sensation subsides.

4. Epsom salts

The magnesium and sulphate found in Epsom salts will reduce inflammation and stimulate nerves to reduce pain and swelling in burning feet. Dissolve a cup of Epsom salts in a bathtub and soak your feet for anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes. For diabetics and those with high blood pressure, however, this is not an advisable option.

5. Apple cider vinegar

One cause of burning feet is an imbalance of the body’s PH which is where unfiltered apple cider vinegar is a good natural remedy. Just add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and drink; or add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a bathtub of hot water and soak your feet for 20 minutes. If the burning feet sensation is caused by Athlete’s Foot, you can apply undiluted apple cider vinegar directly to the affected area.

6. Exercise

The cause of the burning feet might be a result of poor blood circulation. One way to address this is to start with some light exercises, such as jogging or walking (preferably barefoot). It’s advisable to engage in at least half an hour of exercise each day to alleviate the symptoms.

7. Vitamin B3

One of the reasons for burning feet is insufficient vitamin B3 which is known to strengthen nerves and improve circulation. You can try taking Vitamin B3 supplements or eating egg yolks, peanuts, peas, leafy green vegetables, beans or drinking milk.

8. Raw onion

As a natural antibiotic, raw onion has the ability to fight fungal foot infections that could be causing the burning feet sensation. Onions also include phosphoric acid which removes toxins, and Vitamin C and Vitamin E which boost the immune system. You can ingest the raw onion or place it on the affected area.

9. Tumeric

Another seemingly magic natural remedy is turmeric. Rich in antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric will reduce the pain associated with burning feet while also improving blood circulation. You can add two teaspoons of turmeric powder to a bowl of hot water and massage into the feet, or you can drink a solution of turmeric and warm water – two teaspoons in a cup.

10. Massage

If the burning feet sensation is cause by a lack of blood circulation, then a simple 15-minute foot massage can do a lot to alleviate the pain. Try using coconut, mustard or olive oil when massaging the foot. Or visit Eugenie Rowson for a comprehensive bio feedback assessment.

It’s important to diagnose the underlying reason for the burning foot sensation because, while the natural remedies might alleviate the pain, it will undoubtedly return at a later stage if not addressed.
